This assignment is all about colour. Harmonious, contrasting, complementary, accents, design, filtering, adding and subtracting, etc. I sometimes describe myself as a bit of a colour-holic, and here present 16 colourful pictures with commentaries on composition, balance and movement.

10 pictures of foodstuff arranged to match a pre-defined set of compositional design elements. It was a fun exercise that I learnt a lot from.

Two very different pictures of a cucumber to illustrate the contrast between “straight” and “curved”. As well as off-camera flash and home made reflectors, the shoot also involved the creation of a cucumber salad. Yummie!

A bit of photoshop turns 12 into 40, and just by virtue of the sheer number, a set of otherwise cute salt and pepper shakers take on a somewhat menacing appearance. It goes to prove that not everything is what it seems.

A high key shot of our homegrown chilli plant with its 54 ripe fruits (yes, I counted them!), and a version with Mr Blue, Ms Red and a black background. The setup for the latter required a gobo and several reflectors to get the light right, and even so, one of the lessons I take away from this shoot, is that more practise is required.
