Whether they’re headhots, mugshots, snapshots or formal portraits, people are always interesting photographic subjects. I like to capture not just a likeness, but also an expression, a mood or a story. “The eyes are a reflection of the soul” is a cliché, but there’s no doubt they are very powerful in pictures. Eye contact draws you into the picture, but sometimes I like to avoid the contact to create tension or let the viewer wonder what the subject is looking at.
